By car or boat

The most frequent itineraries to and from Kefalonia are realized from the port of Kyllini at Elia. Every day, the ferries of the two companies that serve the line, connect the port of Poros in the south-eastern side of Kefalonia, with the opposite shore. The trip takes about two hours, while at specific days of the week, there is a direct connection between Kyllini and the port of Argostoli , the capital of Kefalonia. By car, Poros is at 40 km from Argostoli, 26 km from Sami and 13 km from the touristic Skala. KTEL interurban buses connect the port with the capital of the island, as well as other towns and villages of Kefalonia.

You can also access Kefalonia from the port of Astakos in Aitoloakarnania. The ship arrives at the port of Sami, with daily routes (details in ionionpelagos.com), while the trip lasts about 3.5 hours. From Sami you can reach by car or by bus Argostoli (26 km), Fiskardo(39 km), Poros(26 km) and other destinations on the island. If you are on one of the neighboring islands of Ithaca, Zakynthos or Lefkada, there are itineraries realized from these islands to the ports of Sami, Fiskardo or Pessada in southern Kefalonia.
